Topic: Remembering The Wonders of God
Bible Reading: Psalm 75-77; Romans 6.
Memory Verse: “I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old” Psalm 77:11 (KJV)
In my part of the world, it is often said that when a child gives thanks for the good deeds of yersteryears, he will get new ones! When you show gratitude to God for what He has done for you in the past, you are bringing to memory His goodness and He will show up for you again. This is particularly gratifying when it is done in difficult times. Imagine a situation where those who are far greater than you in strength decided to fight you. You have the fear of facing this group. However, in the case of Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:10-23 ), he and his army appointed singers to praise God and remember His good deeds and greatness by eulogizing Him. Then God showed up and gave them a surprising win that remains a wonder up till today.
Paul and Silas adopted the same approach when they were wrongfully detained because they were preaching the gospel of Christ. They prayed and eulogized God and suddenly all the chains on their hands and legs fell off and the whole prison was opened for them to walk away.
In a similar situation, a church was conducting wedding for a couple when they asked them to go to the vestry to sign their marriage certificate and while there the new husband suddenly slumped and died. The church prayed but noted that the man did not wake up and suddenly remembered part of their training to eulogise God in difficult times and the church switched to praising God. Suddenly, the man came back to life by sneezing and that’s how they were able to complete the ceremony on a jouyous note.
What challenges are you facing now? Can you recollect the wonders God has done in your life and in the lives of those you know? Recount it to eulogise God. The Bible says in Psalm 77:11 (KJV), “I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.” Do this continually until God outstretches His arms to give you a pleasant surprise to your challenges.
However, for this to work effectively, you need to examine yourself that you are in good standing with God and if not, first go to Him and ask for mercy while surrendering yourself back to Him as your Lord and Saviour. Thereafter, eulogise Him.
Action Point: No matter your present situation, just eulogise God by thanking Him for the good things you can remember that He has done for you and your family.
