“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come” – 1 Timothy 4:8(KJV).
Godliness can be defined as a condition and quality of being righteous. It is a state of being gloriously good. When Jesus died at the cross for our sins He provided us with all we need to live a godly life. The Holy Spirit was release upon man to quicken our dead spirit to life and adequately equip us to live a life completely devoted to God. By that quickening, the Holy Spirit releases on us the power needed for sonship. This is the godly power which we acquired through the redemptive work of Christ . 2 Peter 1:3-4(KJV) says: “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”.
We all know what bodily exercise is, but what does godliness entail? Godliness entails, but not limited to the following:-
Being completely submissive to the Almighty God (Romans 10:3). We must submit ourselves to the righteousness of God.
Being obedient to divine instructions (Acts 26:19). We must be total in our obedience to scriptural injunction.
We must study and meditate on the word of God on a daily basis for the renewing of our mind and approval unto God (Joshua 1:8, Romans 12:2, 2 Timothy 2:15).
Loving God with all our heart, mind and body and also love our fellowman as much as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39).
From the above scriptures, there are threefold profits of godly living as follows:-
Profits in all things: “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” – 1 Peter 1:3(KJV) .
Profits in this life: “But ye shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses,..” (Mark 10:30).
Profits in the life to come: “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Roman 6:22-23(KJV)) .
My dear reader, living a godly life is very profitable. It is more profitable than any investment you can ever imagine. It is my pleasure, therefore, to welcome you to a godly living as you take conscious decision to serve God and live for Him.
Prayer: Father give me the grace to live my entire life for you and your kingdom.
