Bible Reading: Genesis 12,13,14; Matthew 5:25-48
“They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.” – John 8:39 (KJV)
It is widely believed that a child should reflect his parents or at least one of them in whatever he or she does. This behoves on everyone to set good examples as the next generation is watching how you live. Even Jesus was a reflection of His Father. He said in John 5:30 (KJV), “I can of mine own self do nothing…”. He does only what He sees His Father do, or was told to do by the Father.
The scriptures was written for our learning (Roman 15:4). Abraham is one example in scriptures that was referenced in different bible books by God Himself, and His Son, Jesus. He is known as the Father of Faith as is seen in today’s Bible Reading. He faithfully obeyed God’s instruction to leave his father’s house, not even knowing where He was taking him to (Genesis 12:1-3).
He was a liberal soul. He gave Lot the chance to choose first which land to settle on, even though he was the older of the two (Genesis 13:8-12). The bible says in Proverbs 11:25 (KJV), “The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.” He was so nice to people, including strangers, that he entertained Angels without knowing it (Hebrews 13:2). No wonder he was blessed in all things.
Christ died to bring us into the blessings of Abraham (Galatians 3:14). By following his example and works, we will not just be blessed, but be a blessing also to generations yet unborn.
Prayer: Father, grace to follow the path you have lined up for me through your Son and your servants as seen in your word, in Jesus name.
