Bible Reading: Psalm 44: Revelation 3:12-22
“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind and naked” – Revelation 3:17 (KJV).
In this world where money is the purchasing power, riches is measured by how much money a person has or how much his assets are worth. Such wealth or riches is measured in terms of this present life without eternal perception.
Anyone who has so much of this world’s goods or hard currency is said to be rich. Most times, wealth is not even measured in terms of knowledge and skills acquired, or experience gained until such translates to money.
In God’s economy, true riches have eternal value. True riches transcend this very life; it is the quality of ones spiritual life and walk with God. It is in terms of the spiritual capacity one has developed, in terms of how much one knows and commits to God. It is the quality of one’s word life, the quality of ones prayer life, the quality of ones obedient life. It is the quality of ones communion with God and experience with God. True riches are weighed in the light of eternity. To be truly rich is to be rich towards God. It is how much of God’s power, glory, presence and fruits of character of Christ one carries. True riches are not perishable but enduring: it is not in terms of how much of this world’s goods one has but how much of God one carries.
The Loadiceans, like today’s church, boast of how much money and material goods they control rather than how much of Christ-life and power they carry. They confessed that they are rich, and has need of nothing, but they were found wanting, miserable and poor in terms of spiritual realities and in the light of eternity.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to go for true riches.
