Bible Reading: 1 Kings 21, 22; Luke 23: 29-56
“And Naboth said to Ahab, the LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee” – 1 Kings 21:3 (KJV)
The premium we place on our inheritance determines how carefully we shall guide it when situation threatens it. A lot of people in our society have fallen victim to empty promises orchestrated by the devil to lure unguided souls into a disadvantaged position and thus impoverish their souls.
Ahab, a cruel king came to Naboth, a subject in the land after he has fully nursed the seed of covetousness and attempted to negotiate the inheritance of Naboth for monetary value or another field. “And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money” v. 2
There are things to note in the above statement of the king:
Give me your vineyard that I may have it for a garden of herbs. The king did not bother if there was a better usage plan which Naboth had for his vineyard.
And I will give thee for it a better vineyard or money. If the king knows that he has a better vineyard, why did he not plant his herbs there, knowing fully well that it shall do well there? In case, you do not want to go far, I will give you money. This bait of money today has made untold thousands to do away with their inheritance. The offer though looks so attractive but definitely not to a disciplined mind.l How disciplined are you, when you hear of money? The response of Naboth explains better his resolve: “And Naboth said to Ahab, the LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee” – v.3. Even-though it costs you your life as it later did to Naboth. Jebezel entered into the scene and twisted the entire process to favour her husband. She thought that being a king, you must be a grabber (v7). May I counsel that you MUST resolve never to trade away your inheritance in Christ for anything no matter how attractive it may appear? Guard your inheritance no matter what it takes (Read vv. 4-14).
Prayer Point: I receive grace to guide my inheritance in Christ no matter the pressure in Jesus name.
