Topic: Orderliness and Decency (Part 2)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 9-10; 1 Corinthians 15:1-32
Memory verse: “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” 1 Timothy 3:15 (KJV)
There is a way to behave in the house of God. The disorderliness of the nation must not enter the church. There must be order in the church and order in the family. Family is key to building orderliness in the nation. But it must learn from the word of God in the church. Man is the head of the family. Orderliness and decency must be done in the home to keep family values. Courtesy and decency are encouraged but when the woman tries to take over the home decency is broken.
There is a way we ought to behave in the house of God or with things pertaining to God. “The church is the house of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” 1Timothy 3:15b (KJV). Truth works in orderliness not in disorderliness and confusion. God wants orderliness in His house than anywhere else. The anger of the LORD kindled against Uzzah for his disorderly conduct. God struck Uzzah for trying to help when the oxen carrying the ark stumbled (1 Chronicles 13:1-14). You cannot help God! Please Him the way He wants, not the way you think or the people want. Israel and King David broke order; they were doing a good thing but not in order.
Until some bad things happen humans don’t usually come to themselves. David went to find out from God the right order with which the ark of God can be carried. Only the Levites should carry the ark of God, not just any man. Uzzah was not qualified! It must be God’s way not any other way, “For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought Him not after the due order. So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel. And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded, according to the word of the LORD” 1 Chronicles 15:13-15 (KJV). When due order was followed, the ark was brought in successfully.
Check your decency and orderliness in the house of God for minor things can make your worship not to go up to God. When Moses married an Ethiopian woman Aaron and Mary stood him up! God came down hard on them, especially Mary, because it is not up to them to correct any prophet (Numbers 12:1-15). Even Moses himself did not follow due order when he “struck” instead of to “speak” to the rock to bring water. Although water came out, it was because God esteemed the people more than Moses because the people must drink water. The result? Moses missed the promised land!
God’s ways are not our ways if we must work with Him and for Him we must follow order and decency (Isaiah 55:8). His Holy Spirit is the key to walking and yielding to His will. But this is only possible when you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and your saviour.
Prayer: Father, order my path in your word. May I not work against Your will in Jesus name.
