Bible Reading: Psalm 106:1-48
“They forgat God their savior, which had done great things in Egypt; Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red Sea” – Psalm 106:21-22(KJV)
Most times, we lose sight of divine interventions in our life. The act of always taking God’s act for granted and disregarding his hand upon our life is the reason why it seems God is very far from us and our prayers unanswered. The act of ungratefulness is a grievous sin that destroys our relationship with God. God cannot stand a person with an ungrateful heart. The above scriptures is a reflection of the ungratefulness of Israel as a nation. Considering the various acts of God both in Egypt and at the Red Sea, it is expected that Israel will live all the days of their existence ever grateful to God. It is also expected that these acts of the Almighty will remain as a memorial in all generation provoking praise and worship anytime it is read. No it was not so, instead the people forgot so easily and went whoring with the molten images as their god. This was an unfortunate act as God’s anger was kindled against them. But for Moses’ intervention, Israel would have been wiped out.
Before we begin to condemn Israel, let us consider our lives. That accident you narrowly missed, the mishap that occurred but you came out unscratched, that flight you missed that crashed few minutes after take-off, the trailer that crashed on your vehicle few seconds after you came out from your car, the gas you mistakenly left open for some time and lighted a match but your house was not burnt down, all these incidents would have been catastrophic, but you escaped. Was it your power or God’s saving arms? Have you even considered being thankful to God or you ignoredtHim and worshipped after the god of money. How many times have you returned from travel and thanked God for your safe journey. The food served on your table have you ever remembered to be thankful to God for provision? Did you take the provision for granted? Hear what Paul the Apostle said in Ephesians 5:20(KJV) “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”. In all our activities we must acknowledge God for life and daily supply. God has given us the most important things in life freely; air, water, sun, rain, etc. etc.
God’s faithfulness in keeping to His promises remains intact and unshakeable. It is not in God to fail. If there is failure in our relationship with God it must have come from our end. God made an eternal promise in Genesis 3:15(KJV): “And I will put enmity between thee(Satan) and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shall bruise his heel.” Jesus Christ came to fulfil this promise and paid dearly for the sins of humanity. Not accepting him into your life is the greatest act of ungratefulness that must be judged. That is why the bible said there is no more sacrifice for sin, but a certain fearful judgment and fiery indignation which shall devour the adversaries (Hebrews 10:26-30). Anyone who is not for Christ is against him, there is no sitting on the fence on this. You are an adversary that must be avenged by divine judgment. To avoid the great anger of God, move fast away from your present place of sin and embrace your master and Lord now.
Prayer: Father, Give me the grace to ever remain grateful to you for all things.
