“But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak”. – 1 Corinthians 8:9 KJV
As children of God we have liberty to do all things and to eat anything but we are to do so within the limits of our love for Christ. That is why Apostle Paul told the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 10:23 KJV. “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not”.
Whilst we are free to do anything we must remember that whatever will cause our brethren to sin is not lawful. We should therefore ask ourselves every time whether what we are about to do will make anyone to commit sin. If yes, we should desist from doing it.The bible says in 1Corinthians 8:13 KJV “Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend”. Thus if your dress looks decent enough to you but will cause your brother or sister to lust after you, then you should not wear it.
Our liberty therefore has the following constraints:
1. Obedience to Christ.
2. Love for our neighbor.
Prayer: Father, help me not to cause others to sin through my liberty in you.
