Bible Reading: Psalm 45: Revelation 4:1-11
“Thou are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou has created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created” – Revelation 4:11 (KJV).
Understanding the purpose of our creation and committing to that purpose marks an end to living for self or leaving to please men. Most times we get caught up in the quest to please self, to please others or to please the world. The above scripture makes it very clear that we were created for God’s pleasure. Whether God gets the pleasure he deserves from our lives or we get the pleasure ourselves is a matter of how we live our lives.
A life of obedience, holiness and true service to the kingdom gives God pleasure. Sin displeases God and grieves the Holy Spirit. Service rendered with wrong motive and pride dishonours God. It was the desire and temptation to live for self that led to the fall of man. Since then, man has become the centre of his world. Love for self has competed with love for God. Until flesh is dethroned and presented as a living sacrifice, God cannot take pleasure in man’s life. Service or worship done in the flesh stinks before God. A broken, humble and meek spirit gives God pleasure.
Our loving obedience, faithful and selfless service gives him pleasure. When we render praise and true worship, God takes pleasure in them.
PRAYER: Lord, let my life give you the pleasure that only you deserve.
