Bible Reading: Deut. 3&4; Mark: 10:27-52
“And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.” – Mark 10:52 (KJV)
In exercising our faith on God’s ability to ameliorate our situation we definitely have to aggressively resist the challenging factors that consist of man, situations and even the personal baggage we have acquired over the years. Such baggage include believes, value systems, wrong aspirations and ambitions. In the case of blind Bartimaeus, all these factors were present in his situation and he needed to breakthrough them by his aggressive faith that ran contrary to his former nature of a humble beggar disposition. As a beggar, blind Bartimaeus would have been known to be humble and quiet always at the roadside begging for arms. But when he saw an opportunity for change of his circumstances he took it with an aggression that ran contrary to his beggarly nature that has dominated his life. The bible said he sat by the highway side begging. That was his position over the years – by the highway side. The bible said “And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me” – Mark 10:47 (KJV). Bartimaeus abandoned his former humble and beggarly position to crying out and shouting loud for help when he heard that Jesus was passing by. He disrupted the status quo by his actions in order to receive divine attention for his healing. He not only cried out, he cried the more a great deal when they attempted to silence him. He took an action not conceding to the human factor that intended to silence him from receiving his miracle. His aggressiveness and action drew the attention of the Almighty God. The bible says “And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called” Mark 10:49a(KJV).
Most times, we allow the overwhelming voice of friends and colleagues frustrate our going to Christ for our deliverance and salvation. Most people have been discouraged from seeking help and refuge in Christ by their very intimate friends. When Jesus called for blind Bartimaeus he did something extraordinary. The bible says, “And, he casting away his garment, arose, and came to Jesus” Mark 10:50(KJV). He cast away his garment. That was his garment of an intimidated life; garment of beggarliness, garment of false believe, garments of wrong values, filthy garment of sin, garment of living a suppressed life, Garment of strong limitations. Blind Bartimaeus not only threw away his garment, he arose. He rose from his highway side where he has been condemned to, he rose by defeating his unbelief, he rose from his dejected position to come in contact with his destiny.
My dear reader, Jesus is passing by your way today, will you act like blind Bartimaeus or will you give in to the circumstances around you. I beseech you to arise, put away your garment of wrong belief system and values and rise to meet your Saviour for he calls for you. Jesus beckons to you to come to Him for your liberty from every satanic operation.
Prayer: Father grant me the grace to recognize when you are passing my way for change of position.
