Bible Reading: Psalm 106
“Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” – Psalm 106:1 (KJV)
Goodness is the quality of being good. It is often used as a synonym for kindness, tender-heartedness and humaneness. God is good to all people and provides some basic amenities for all irrespective of their relationship with Him. He provides rain and sunlight for the generality of the world inhabitants. He also provides air to everyone freely and gives to the world good health.
Some years ago, a woman was admitted into hospital for non functionality of her kidney and she had to pay about forty thousand Naira (Nigerian currency) to clean up her kidney every other day in addition to the pain she suffered during the cleansing. Now this amount when considered for a year amounted to over Seven million two hundred thousand Naira ( This is in excess of forty eight thousand dollars every year then). If one has to pay this for the number of years he stays on earth, you can imagine how much indebted we are to God, our creator. This is just for a small part of the body. Now if several parts of the body have to be catered for medically, you can imagine how much that will cost the individual.
Shouldn’t you then appreciate God everyday for the grace He has given you to live without having to pay Him any money! That is for physical protection. In addition to this, God protects us spiritually from all forms of demons, powers, principalities and other satanic attacks. This is why we should praise God for his goodness.
Fortunately, he is ready to forgive our sins. He even calls us to come to him with all our burdens and he would give us rest! Matthew 11:28 (KJV): “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
That is why our passage today in Psalm 106:1 (KJV) says, “Praise ye the Lord . O give thanks unto the Lord ; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
Action Point: Thank God for the glorious and awesome things he has created on earth.
