Bible Reading: Psalm 79-81; Romans 8:1-18.
Memory Verse: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14 (KJV).
Leading is being influenced. Leading by the Spirit therefore means being influenced or led by the Holy Spirit. How do you get the Holy Spirit to lead you? It’s by the word of God. You need to meditate on the word, i.e. study a verse or passage, think over the word you have read, think about similar situations in the Bible and identify as much as possible cases of its application in the Bible and how it can be applied to you. This is what is expected of you when the Bible says in Joshua 1:8 (KJV), “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” You should be ruminating over the words again and again and be open to the Holy Spirit for guidance.
Similar to this is to ensure you obey the word of God that you read. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV), “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” You are expected to put into practice all that you read. As it is stated in Romans 2:13 (KJV), “(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.” Obeying the commandments of God shows your love for Him and the Holy Spirit will lead you in your walk. Doing this will also imply that you put God first in everything that you do as the word of God states in Matthew 6:33 (KJV), “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” This means you will ask yourself at anytime if what you are about doing aligns with the kingdom of God and it’s righteousness and you will only continue if so. This amounts to honouring God and He will honour whoever honours Him.
Lastly, to ensure you are led by the Spirit of God, you should learn to respond to the inner witness in you. God often speaks to us in very still small voice (1 Kings 19:12). You should learn to obey this voice and as you honour God with your obedience, He will lead you in your walk continuously.
In conclusion, Romans 8:14 (KJV) says “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” You will be more like Him as you keep submitting yourself to be led by His Spirit.
Prayer point: Father, give me the grace to yield myself to be led by the Holy Spirit continually in Jesus mighty name.
