DAILY BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 40, 41, 42; Hebrews 4
“Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” Hebrews 4:1-2 (KJV)
The goal of every businessman is to make profit in whatever venture he is involved in. This accounts for investment of time for personal development in the business one prefers to pursue. Many could go as far as overseas to acquire skill related to the business. Many as well could go to the extent of importing sophisticated machines and hire those who could handle them well. As it applies in the world, it is so also in the kingdom arena. The Lord wants us to bring profit into His kingdom through the eternal word he speaks to us through any available means.
The writer of the book of Hebrews saw the need to admonish his audience to allow the promise of entering into his rest resonate with them every time. This is because failure to do this would make us fall short of the promise of rest. Essentially, God wants each of us to allow His Word to profit us, not only here but most importantly in eternity. Unfortunately, not everyone who hears the word of God always take it to heart. And sadly, those who have once shown deeper commitment are falling into shameful errors regarding the gospel they once upheld in high esteem.
Friends, ask yourself this question, am I bringing profit into the kingdom of God or causing loss in the circle? Is the Word becoming burdensome to me now or bringing joy into my heart? You do not need to drift away, it is too dangerous. Or if you have drifted away, come back home now and allow the Word to mix with faith in you. Remember, that was how you started the journey. Never forget that, God is not a respecter of persons. Anyone who refuses to align with His word shall undoubtedly taste His burning wrath.
You are, therefore, encouraged to endeavour to determine that anywhere you are, the word of God shall always bring profit to you and those around you. If the gospel has been preached to you and you have embraced it, keep it fast and do not let it slip off your hand regardless of whatever betides you. Are you making up your mind to bring profit into the kingdom or what? Do not let yours be like that of others who are not serious in bringing profit into the kingdom. “For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message was of no value to them because those who heard it did not combine it with faith”v.2 (NIV) Let the word continually mix with faith in your heart. May God help you to do so in Jesus Christ name.
Prayer: Lord, help me not to bring loss into Your kingdom as long as I live in Jesus Christ name.
