BIBLE READING: PROVERBS 3,4,5; 2 CORINTHIANS 1
“My son, attend to my words;
Incline thine ear unto my sayings” Proverbs 4:20 (KJV).
Paying attention to God’s word and obeying His instructions is the secret of fulfillment, peace and lasting joy in life. There is the tendency to ignore God’s word and lean on human understanding. This is often the way of many because the unrenewed mind is rebellious in nature.
Man will always crave for independence but that path will always lead to destruction. “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverb 16:25 (KJV). An independent life disobeys the word and instructions of God but the path of obedience is God’s plan for his children. It is the path of health, joy, peace and safety.
Paying attention to God’s word could mean a commitment to personal study of the word or listening to the Holy Spirit or to preaching and teaching of the word. The same instruction God gave to Joshua before he assume the office of leading the children of Israel into the land of Canaan. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” Joshua 1:8 (KJV).
Obedience to God always brings blessings and success but disobedience often result to hardship and frustration. God not only deserves our obedience, He also demands our obedience as His lovely children. A song writer puts it in a very clear way, “Trust and obey, for there is no other way, to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, lead me in the path of obedience.
