TOPIC: JESUS CHRIST OUR MEDIATOR
Bible Reading: Jeremiah 49-50: Hebrews 5
“Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered” Hebrews 5:8 (KJV)
Jesus Christ came into the world as God who manifested as a man and dwelt among us. He is the incarnate Word of God that took on flesh for the purpose of our redemption. John 1:1-3(KJV) states that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.” These verses of scriptures established the deity and incarnation of the Word in the flesh. Christ was manifested for our salvation and to destroy the works of the devil who has ravaged man who sold his authority at Eden. Man at the garden of Eden sold his authority to the devil through disobedience to God’s instruction.
Christ came to pay for the penalty of sin and restore man’s authority. To do this He was made the sacrificial Lamb of God to offer Himself for the sin of humanity which began at Eden and became the Mediator of the new testament. It is in the place of Mediation that He stood as our High Priest after the order of Melchisedec. The mediation and sacrificial position of Christ require that He suffer for the sin of man, hence the bible said He learnt obedience through His suffering and became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him (Hebrews 5:9). Under the earthly sanctuary of the old testament a High Priest is called and ordained from among the people, who is flawed by reason of death hence that testament was not eternal and is with imperfection. For the new testament to be flawless and perfect it requires the appointment of a High Priest who through suffering was made perfect and whose continuance will not be truncated by death, hence the bible says “and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; called of God a high priest after the order of Melchisedec” Hebrews 5: 9-10(KJV).
The superiority of the High Priest of Christ over that of the old testament centers on His Eternal Priesthood and Perfection. It is only when we get to heaven that the fullness of Christ’s suffering will be revealed to us. Christ performed the dual function at His death fulfilling all requirement for the purpose of redemption. He offered His blood for the remission of sin, He was a surety of the everlasting covenant and testator of the new testament and He became the mediator of the new covenant in His place as the High Priest. He is the in between or reconciliation of Man to God.
By virtue of His birth, crucifixion, death and resurrection Jesus Christ satisfied all requirement of our Eternal High Priest and Mediator. As our Redeemer He is able to in all ramification save us from all our sin and regenerate our spirit man through the Holy Spirit. This is why the bible says in 2 Peter 1:3-4(KJV), “according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
My dear reader God has supplied you all that you need to live a godly and victorious life in Christ Jesus. There is no excuse whatsoever for anyone who after this knowledge fail to surrender his/her life to Christ. He is knocking at the door of your heart, let Him in and live.
Prayer: Father, thank you for making me a recipient of your love which you demonstrated through Christ Jesus.
