Bible Reading: Daniel 8, 9, 10; 3 John 1.
Memory Verse: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” 3 John 1:4 (KJV)
I read an account of a man who was quite upright and he had a lot of opportunity to unjustly enrich himself but did not do so. He however trained his children and gave them good education but did not leave any material wealth for his children. At his death bed, one of his children was bitter seeing that the father left no material wealth for them and expressed this to the father before he died. A few months later, the daughter child of the deceased man went for an interview for job as her life must continue to run. At the interview, the chairman of the panel asked the lady about her father and she said the man was dead. The Chairman of the Pannel recollected how the man had helped him in the past without knowing his family and how honourable he was. There and then, he said the lady should be offered the job given her father’s antecedents and that surely the lady would be an asset to the company. The lady got a very great offer and she felt so bad that she had been disrespectful to her father. She apologized to the deceased father and asked for his forgiveness. She thereafter got a portrait of her father and kept it in her home and office as epitome of character.
The father in this case left a very great legacy for her children though the daughter was looking for material wealth, she got what was more important than material. You could say the lady may not have met someone who appreciated his father but God has a way of compensating the righteous. All you need is to ensure you live a life worthy of emulation and train your children, biological and spiritual in the way of the Lord so that when they behave, it will be obvious that they have the right guidance and you will also be happy whenever you hear that they walk in the truth of God. Apostle John says in 3 John 1:4 (KJV), “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”
To have this great joy, you need to do the following: teach your children the way of the Lord as written in the Bible but more importantly is that you need to live what you teach. That way, they will learn practically how to deal with various issues. They will learn more when you take decisions in their presence that shows you value obedience to God’s word above comfort, riches, temporary peace among others. When they see you exhibit the fruit of the Spirit!
Action Point:
Ensure you live a life of holiness while teaching your children the way of the Lord for the rest of your life.
