Bible Reading: Psalm 132:1-18
“If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.” – Psalm 132:12 KJV.
One condition that cuts across all God’s promises is keeping the covenants of God. Obedience to the words of God is so key in all situations that God stated that it is the reason of our being. Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV) –“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” This emphasizes the importance of obedience. Everyone that wants to claim the promises of God must learn to obey his words.
One of those promises is in Psalm 132:12 KJV. “If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.” This promise is as applicable to David as it is to every believer of Christ today. So, if you are barren and you want to be fruitful, all you need to do is to keep the covenant of God. As long as you do so, you will have children because the passage says: “if your children will keep my covenant.” So there is implied blessing of having children once you keep His covenant.
Exodus 23:22,25-26 (KJV): “But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries. And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.”
So, the panacea for being fruitful is obedience. It is also the required immunity against early death as it is stated in verse 26a of the passage. In exodus 23:27, God further promised that he will cause your enemies to run away from you if only you will obey Him. So whoever is planning to destroy you, when you truly keep the covenant of God, such people will run away on their own accord. What a victory one will have!
But the key to that victory is obedience. Obedience to the word of God can truly be achieved by love of God. Hence Jesus stated that the first and great commandment is to love God. When we love God we will obey Him.
Prayer: Father, please give me the grace to love you with everything I have and keep your covenant till the end.
