Bible Reading: Genesis 23-24; Matthew 8
“And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Matthew 8:2-3 (KJV)
God’s plan for us all is to prosper and be in health. He created man for a purpose and He expects us to come to the end of that purpose before leaving this earth. The bible says He has given all things that pertains unto life and godliness. Good health is one of the things He gave us. To live a fulfilled life one needs good health; all the father’s of old lived to a good old age before bidding farewell to the world.
Health is a gift from God to man. But sin and imperfections made man fall short of this wonderful gift. Sickness and diseases were never in God’s agenda for man. But after Adam gifted rulership to the wicked one sin and sicknesses and all other imperfections which accompanies a wicked ruler became normal in the world. Although some sicknesses can be as a result of not taking good care of yourself, poor eating habits, living in dirty environment, etc, the devil himself hides behind to cause problems for people.
The devil was behind Job’s illness. After God testified of Job’s uprightness and blamelessness, the devil said Job 2:4-5 (KJV), “And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.“ Satan inflicted a disease on Job so that the latter would curse God. He is still inflicting diseases on people today because he has the right to do so to some extent.
Adam gave him the right of rulership when he disobeyed God. And everything that accompanies a wicked ruler is what man now experienced. Sickness in all forms, worry, fear, etc all came into the world as a result of the coming in of Satan, the devil. Proverbs 29:2b says, “… when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Man has been mourning since Satan took over but thank God, who sent His Son and now the people rejoice.
Jesus, in the memory verse, was more than willing to heal the man. He healed the servant of the centurion without even going to meet the servant (Matty 8:5-13). In fact, the bible says “Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sickness.” Matthew 8:17b (KJV). He came to undo all the works of the devil; sicknesses and diseases inclusive. He is still the same yesterday, today and for ever. All you have to do is come under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, God’s answer to all the issues of life. If you are yet to give your life to Christ please do so now before it is too late.
