Bible Reading: Genesis 23-24; Matthew 8
Memory verse: “And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.” Genesis 24:1 (KJV)
The blessings of Abraham is an example to us of how God really wants us to be blessed. He lived long and in good health, had children to continue his lineage, was wealthy materially, has many servants, often favoured by strangers and has God around him. His blessings was used as a standard for all Gentiles that would accept Christ in Galatians 3:14a (KJV), “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ;”
The high point of blessings is the God-factor. A lot of people these days equate blessings only to material things. Building a house, buying a car, etc. While these are good there is more. People steal and dupe people just to buy these material things and afterwards claim they are blessed. Blessing from God brings Him around you and He takes charge of your affairs for you.
God is the constant factor in blessings. There was a time Abraham had nothing but was living in his father’s house. But all that changed when God came; he embraced Him and obediently followed from day one when he was told to leave his father’s house. He favoured Abraham in foreign lands such that whenever he left these places he received so many goods and cattles. And because these favour came from God He protected him and made him bigger in lands where he is a stranger.
Blessing from God brings all the positive forces from heaven to your side such that health, family, possession, business, relationships, etc are all taken care of by God. No wonder today’s memory verse tells us, “And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.” Genesis 24:1 (KJV).
God is the source of blessings. His blessing maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22). But your obedience is a must if you must enjoy His blessings.
Prayer: Dear Father, help me to obey and follow You like Abraham did in Jesus name.
