Bible Reading: Numbers 3-4; Matthew 25:24-51
“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” – Matthew 6:25.
In this passage, Jesus taught that worry is unproductive. Worry keeps us from fulfilling the kingdom purposes to which God has called us. God uses all situations to accomplish His purposes, and He wants us to trust Him and join Him in fulfilling His plans for us.
Jesus established the fact that worry is illogical for the child of God. If God is the Creator of everything in the world, including us, then He will also provide for our needs. Faith calls for trust in a loving God at work in the world working all things for every creature. Worry shows a lack of trust. Jesus’ teaching did not ignores the reality of sickness and struggle among the people of the earth. However, Jesus’ clear teaching for believers is to trust God above all. If the Lord faithfully provides for the needs of mere creatures, how much more will He provide for us as His children?
God is in control and doesn’t need our worrying to sustain the universe. We don’t have to be in charge because we serve a God who controls everything. Romans 8:28 assures us that ” we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”, which means seeking Him and His righteousness above all else. We can be confident that He will fulfill His kingdom purposes on to completion in the world as He has promised “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”- Philippians 1:6.
We demonstrate that confidence when we choose to make the most of the opportunities we are given, focusing on Him rather than the worries of the world.
Prayer: Father, I receive grace to stop worrying and focus on You as my source and provider in Jesus Name.
