BIBLE READING: 1 KINGS 19-20, JOHN 2
Memory Verse: “And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee”. 1 Kings 19:7 (KJV).
The journey of the believer on earth is one that is very eventful. There are so many distractions everywhere. We are living in a world of so many voices, many seeking to make us deviate from the truth of God’s word. Have you noticed that even now it seems that the very core truths on which we founded our beliefs in Christ are being threatened by modernism and age revolution? Many are now questioning infallible bible principles with some suggesting the possibility of errors in the Holy Scriptures. All these are a strong attack on our faith and if one is not careful, we can find ourselves doubting even the existence of God. The bible admonishes “ That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Ephesians 4:14 (KJV).
Sometimes, we go through situations or read about issues that drain us even spiritually and the temptation of giving up comes up but the answer is to continually feed on the word so that our strength is restored and unfailing. Prophet Elijah had just scored a victory over the prophets of Baal, announced the coming of the rain which happened as he had spoken and also outran King Ahab yet when Jezebel threatened him, he ran for his life into the wilderness and requested for his death. The best time to be most watchful is immediately after a victory. Indeed perilous times are here so we cannot afford to be complacent and allow the enemy to gain ground in our walk with the Lord.
So dear believer, arise and eat. Feed on the word of God continually. Shut your ears to what circumstances you see around you and choose to believe only God’s word concerning you. That is the strength you need to last till the end.
In the next verse, we see the result of Elijah’s eating the food presented to him. “And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.” 1 Kings 19:8 (KJV). When we feed on the word on God, our strength is renewed, Hallelujah!
Prayer: Lord, please help me to steadfastly dwell on your word; let my strength be renewed daily.
