Bible Reading: Proverbs 15-16; 2 Corinthians 1
Memory verse: “All the ways of a man are clean in his eyes; But the LORD weigheth the spirits” Proverbs 16:2 (KJV)
“God is a spirit,” says our Lord Jesus in John 4:24 (KJV), “and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” This scripture tells us that worship is not limited to a location or a ritual but is rather a matter of the heart and obedience to God’s commands. No matter what we do on earth, if it is not in line with His ways we have missed Him.
Man is made up of body, soul and spirit. The soul is made up of mind, will and emotion. My soul is attached to my spirit and both of them connected or apart is called my heart. The heart and mind are fused together. A part of my heart, which has to do with my spirit, connects to the Holy Spirit and another connects to the soul. Because of the spirit nature of man, it makes communication to the spirit world possible.
It is through our spirit He communicates with us, and since the spirit makes up a part of the heart He sees our heart clearly. The bible says, “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord searching all the inwards parts of the belly” Proverbs 20:27 (KJV). God is more interested in what comes out from the heart because out of it comes all sorts of things which defiles a man. If the man is defiled, then his spirit is not working right. God tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV), “I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to His ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”
Man has invented many ways outside God and yet never sees anything wrong in all they do. Evil is on the rise especially being perpetuated by people one would hardly suspect would commit such. Yet, when caught in the act these ones usually plead innocence or try to makes excuses. No wonder Proverbs 16:2a (KJV) tells us, “All the ways of a man are clean in his eyes;” however, God does not look at just what man does but looks at the motives behind the doing and where it emanated from. He searches the heart and “weigheth the spirit”of man.
Examine your heart in all your do, for God is a Spirit who weighs all you do from the intents of your heart or spirit. Follow the advice given in Proverbs 16:3 (KJV), “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus, help me to commit all my thoughts and doings into Your Hands.
