…Spreading the gospel of Christ

DAILY BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 46, 47; Hebrews 6

“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,…if they shall fall away, to renew them again into repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame” Hebrew 6:4,6 (KJV)

The journey to our safe haven calls for prudence from those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. At no time should anyone feels that he is above the mess that could attempt to rubbish the testimony of someone who believes. Cases abound in the society of many who have once held the Bible in high esteem, such individuals could do nothing except what the Word of God commands when they initially came in contact with Christ. Sadly, the story has now changed as they take regular pleasure in crucifying the Son of God to themselves by their conduct almost on daily basis now.

This is the reason the writer of Hebrews feels that such subject matter should be addressed to safeguard further falling away of those who have taken their stand with the Lord and His word. Today, the level of apostasy calls for serious concern from well meaning individuals. The Hebrews writer sounds that note of warning very firmly: “For it is impossible…if they fall away…” Hebrews 6:4a, 6a (KJV). Those phrases underscore something that is very strong and a possibility. It is very important to note that, the word “if” does not appear in any Greek text. This makes it clear that the writer of Hebrews actually presents falling away as a possibility. Invariably, the falling away means crucifying the Son of God again. May I ask you to think deeply on areas where you have crucified the Son of God? This could be in your office. It could also be in your family relationship. The shortcut you are taking just to get out of a predicament which does not actually glorify God could be another area.

My brothers and sisters, have you once been enlightened? Have you once tasted the heavenly gift? Have you been partakers of the Holy Ghost? Have you tasted the good Word of God? What is your current disposition towards the above listed? Do you still tremble at the Word of God or you are now too familiar with it to the extent that it has lost its impact in your life? Are you now using the Holy Ghost in the comedy arena? Is the once cherished Rhema of the Word that you have still fresh in your life or you have thrown it away or brushed it aside to embrace mere philosophy of men? Where do you stand now? There is every need for you to come back if you have crucified Christ again in your life lest that word of impossibility be fulfilled in your life. Failure to do this shall force God to spew you out of His mouth and that can be beyond remedy.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I repent of every area of my life where I have crucified you in my life. Help me to push on in the race till I see You face-to-face in Jesus Christ name.
