Topic: Destruction due to lack of knowledge
Bible Reading: Hosea 1-4; Jude 1.
Memory Verse: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” Hosea 4:6 (KJV)
Knowledge is power. When you have knowledge of anything, you have confidence concerning that thing. Thus, if you know how to build a house, you will be at ease when people are building houses for you as you will know when they are doing the right thing and if they are about to do the wrong thing, you will correct them. By training, I am an Accountant and whenever we discuss about accounting records of an organisation, I am at ease as I have a good knowledge of it and often advise people on what they should do and what are not necessary for the maintenance of their accounting records. With such knowledge, you will be able to do exploits concerning the subject in question. However, where you do not have the knowledge, people can easily take advantage of you; in addition you yourself can make several mistakes concerning the matter. That is why the Bible says in Proverbs 18:15 (KJV), “The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.”
While it is important to have knowledge about things on these earth, you should note that this is for a while. What is of most importance is the knowledge of God. And this has been made easy for us as the Bible has all that you need to know about God. You therefore need to form a habit of studying the Bible so that you can have knowledge about God and his commandments. It is a pity that a number of people go about seeking so much knowledge about earthly things but hardly devote time to knowing the creator of those things! What a great mistake! The Bible says of the blessing of knowing God in Daniel 11:32 (KJV), “And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”
Do you want divine strength and do great things, then seek the knowledge of God by studying the word of God, meditating on it and obeying his commandments, then you will be amazed how far you will go. In any field of endeavour that you engage in, the knowledge of God will make way for you.
On the contrary, where you do not seek knowledge and particularly the knowledge of God, the word of God has warning for you. It says in Hosea 4:6 (KJV), “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” It is time to seek knowledge of God and act on it by prioritizing studying the Bible and obeying it.
Action point: Ensure you study the Bible everyday to increase your knowledge about the Almighty God.
