Bible Reading: Psalm 109
“That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord hast done it.” – Psalm 109:27 (KJV)
Some years ago, the founder of one of the major Missions in Nigeria went to a south western town in the country to talk to the pastor that was in charge of the parish in that town. The Mission’s parish in the town was doing quite well such that the Pastor felt he should own it. So when the founder was with him, he told the man the church was his and did not belong to the Mission and all the pleadings of the founder to the pastor yielded no positive result. Finally the founder said the church belonged to God and not to him, so he would not fight over God’s property.
So he told the man if he insisted, then he could change the name of the parish so that it would not bear the Missions name any more. Of course, the pastor did exactly that. Not quite a few days after, a wind blew and the pastor was covered with the wind and he came out leperous.
If the founder had fought him, how far could he have gone. Our God is a God that will always fight harder on your behalf than you yourself. So it is better to leave your battles to God rather than fighting your enemies yourself. No wonder God says in Romans 12:19 (KJV): “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Similarly, God came to the aid of the Israelites when the Egyptians were chasing them and the Red Sea was ahead of them. He parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to pass through but used the same sea to drown the Egyptians. There is no way Israelites would have been able to fight the Egyptians that far.
So rather than avenging your enemies, it is better to hand them over to God because he will give them appropriate punishment and you will be justified. Then your enemies will know it’s the hand of God as stated in Psalm 109:27 (KJV): “That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.”
Action point: Using Romans 12:19, report all your adversaries to God Almighty asking him to fight your battles for you.
