Bible Reading: 11 Kings 10, 11, 12; John 1: 27-51
“In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba. And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.” – 2 Kings 12:1-2 (KJV)
The extent to which man would go in life is predicated upon who his instructor is. Quite a number of people who started well have made a shipwreck of their faith because of the source from whom they glean instruction. Many have made irreparable mistakes as they navigate life because of the direction they looked at for instruction. Some homes have broken because of the poisonous instruction received by some hurting parties in the relationship. Some employees have lost their opportunities because of the counsel they got from colleagues.
Jehoash, which means Yahwe has bestowed, began to reign in Jerusalem at a very tender age of seven. And the Bible reckons that he did what was right in the sight of the LORD all the days wherein Jehoiada the high priest instructed him. What type of instruction are you giving to those who are inexperienced around you? What you give to them determines if they would go far or remain mediocres and this also shall negatively affect your record. As a priest like Jehoiada in your home what type of instruction are you giving to the members of your household? Do not forget that the details of Jehoash’s mother were captured. The question is: where was his father?
The Scripture encourages that, “For the lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts” – Malachi 2:7 (KJV). I hope you still remember that if you have surrendered your life to Christ, you are a royal priesthood and God expects you to be a good instructor to those coming up behind you. You cannot do less if the next generation shall maintain their rightness before God. Determine not to fail God in this regard.
Prayer: Dear Lord, release on me grace not to mislead those who are looking up to me in Jesus name.
