Topic: When do you seek God?
Bible Reading: Hosea 5-8; Revelation 1.
Memory Verse: “I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.” Hosea 5:15 (KJV).
A testimony was relayed of a man who was very wicked and all attempts to win his soul for Christ were rebuffed by him until he felt ill and all attempts to get healed proved abortive. Then he heard about a man of God and he asked that he be brought to pray for him. When the man of God finally got there to pray for him, God told him that the man had rebuffed several attempts in the past for him to give his life to Christ and that it was too late for his sickness to be healed and he would die of it!
He forsook God in his early days and now sought for Him in his affliction primarily for him to be healed but God did not answer him. It is important to seek God early. In fact he said in Proverbs 8:17 (KJV), “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” But when you wait till the last minute, you may not find Him. In fact, you may not have that opportunity to seek God at last. Imagine those people who died in unexpected accidents, such people may never know the death was close by and those who delay seeking God may never get the opportunity again.
It is important to note that God expects us to seek Him and fellowship with Him regularly and not wait till there is a problem. God states why He created us in Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV), “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Do you fear Him, do you study His word to know more about Him , do you obey His instructions as stated in the scripture and do you pray to Him regularly irrespective of your situation in life? It is when you intentionally do these things that you can say that you are seeking Him.
He is the greatest protector and He will guide you away from some challenges if you are His disciple. Are you His disciple? If not you can start now by confessing and repenting of your sins to Jesus Christ, accept Him as your Lord and Saviour and determine not to go back to those sins anymore. God is Omni present and so sees everything happening to every being on earth and He says of those who do not seek him, in Hosea 5:15 (KJV), “I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.”
Action point: Start seeking God from now if you had not found Him yet. And if you have found Him already, continue to seek more of Him.
