…Spreading the gospel of Christ

BIBLE READING: Leviticus 11, 12; Mathew 26:1-25

“But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation saying, to what purpose is this waste?” – Matthew 26:8 (KJV)

The best way to live is to invest one’s life in the kingdom. When a person pours out his life in kingdom service, some who do not understand kingdom life will call it a waste. Jesus invested his life to redeem us, we too have to invest our lives in his service. This is the least we can do. If doing this is a waste then it is a good one. I would rather waste my money, my time; my energy and my entire life in pursuit of God and in kingdom service than waste it in pursuit of pleasure or wealth. The scripture rightly said, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his life for my sake and the gospels, the same shall save it” – Mark 8:35( KJV). The man, Christ Jesus, who invested his life and his all demands and deserves our response of commitment. Such commitment can cost us everything including our lives. No sacrifice for God and his kingdom will suffice.

The above narrative is about the woman who invested something so dear to her, her alabaster box of very costly ointment on Jesus. This is simply amazing. The ointment was believed to be her one year salary. She wasted the entire content. She parted with the whole content. The only wealth we have after death are the things we invested in kingdom service. Every other wealth are perishable so have no eternal value. Unfortunately, most people measure wealth in the estates they build, in their companies, bank account, shares and other material possessions. While we need all these investments for our welfare on earth and for a reasonable comfort here, it must be noted however that only what is done for God and in kingdom service will last. Our cars, houses and companies will not follow us beyond death. As soon as we die, all our possessions and investments on earth will be enjoyed by others. Our real wealth that will follow us are the ones we invest in kingdom service.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to invest my life in kingdom service.
