…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 11/05/2019

Bible Reading: II Kings 13, 14; John 2: 1-end

“And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, they have no wine” – John 2:3 (KJV)

No doubt life is filled with a lot of difficulties. This reality brings up the question of where to turn to when one is overwhelmed with the challenges of life. The Psalmist understands this very clearly thus, he says: “Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” – Ps. 56:2-3 (KJV).

The wedding that took place in Cana of Galilee got the greatest guest ever around. While everything was going on well, the unexpected happened as is typical of any ceremony, even if well prepared for. At the height of this confusion the organiser of the event accosted the mother of Jesus Christ who in turn met with Jesus Christ. The disapproving response, “Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come” – v.4, given by Jesus Christ which Mary passed on to them would no doubt made them feel they were yet to get to their last bus stop and thus looked at Christ aghast. The possible questions resonating in their mind were, who shall we turn to again? How are we going to get rid of this impending shame?

Still in this state of shock, Christ who is compassionate and always willing to do His things based on the timing of heaven came to their rescue. The Scripture puts it this way: “Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water” v.7a This statement alone did not guarantee the expected miracle without their own corresponding action. Quickly, and acting on what the mother had hinted them earlier that, “whatever he saith unto you, do it” v.4, they filled the waterpots to the brim. Almost immediately, he asked them to draw the water again, amazingly, it has turned wine. When you turn to Jesus for help at the time you are at the twist and turn of your life, be patient with him to walk according to his own timing for your life. Also, he might give you one or multiple instructions just as we saw in the above text. Be ready to carry them out for outstanding miracle.

Prayer Point: O Lord, I receive grace never to turn away from You whenever I come to the twists and turns of life in Jesus Christ name.
