BIBLE READING: 2 KINGS 1-3, JOHN 3: 22-36
Memory Verse: “And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on”. 2 Kings 2:6 (KJV)
The prophet Elisha is regarded as one of the greatest prophets in Bible history that ever lived. He was a national voice, a mighty instrument in God’s hand. While Elijah, his predecessor performed seven notable miracles, it is recorded that Elisha had fourteen (14), exactly twice that of Elijah. He was so anointed that even his bones long buried raised a dead man to life (2 Kings 13:21). What a man of such grace and power! But isn’t it interesting to note that Elisha didn’t start out like this? The bible tells us in 1 Kings 19:19 that Elisha was a farmer, plowing the field with oxen. So how did he move from being an ordinary farmer to a national prophet? Loyalty and Persistence took him there.
1 Kings 19:21 told us he went after Elijah and ministered unto him. He remained faithful in service until the time of Elijah’s departure. Little wonder he was more than qualified to succeed Prophet Elijah. He had a desire for a double portion of Elijah’s anointing and he had to persevere and be persistent to receive it. God’s promises are yea and amen but you have to stay strong and persist in the place of prayer to receive from the Lord. Three times Elijah asked him to wait at a location but he refused and held on. He defied all distractions until they crossed Jordan and Elijah had to ask what he wanted. When you pursue after God diligently, He will grant your desires. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. Hebrews 11:6 (KJV).
God is not a magician. He is a faithful rewarder. Elisha received because he was persistent. You too can if you hold onto God in prayers by faith. What are you trusting God for in this season? Do not relent. It is yours already. Just hold on and do not take no for an answer.
Action point: Pray persistently to see results.
