…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Topic: Is Jesus Increasing In Your Life?

Bible reading: 2 Kings 1-3; John 3:22-36

Memory verse: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30 (KJV)

The dialogue between John the Baptist and his disciples about Jesus’ ministry in our lives is one that teaches maturity in our walk with God. John was Jesus’ forerunner, and at a time when his ministry peaked and started to wane, Jesus’ was just starting to increase as more and more people were now coming to Jesus than John. The latter’s disciples were not comfortable with the new development and reported the matter to him.

Whatever we do in the house of God or in our walk with God, we do it for Jesus. As we grow in the things of God, Christ must increase in us while the self in us decreases. When Christ is not the focal point of your walk in the kingdom, He will not increase in such a person’s life.

Success in our walk with God is seen in Jesus’ popularity growing faster in and through your life. John understood this and sees it as a privilege thereby telling his disciples, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30 (KJV)

John was pleased and satisfied with what he was called to do by God. He sees it as a privilege. John 3:27 ( KJV) tells us, “John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” He was so pleased to be in Jesus’ shadow that he used the analogy of the best man in a wedding. John is merely the “best man”, Jesus is the groom, the people are the bride. The “best man” does not focus attention toward himself, it is his role by privilege to do whatever he can to help the groom and bride, to keep the focus on them, this role John happily takes on!

Is Christ increasing in your life. Are you pointing people to Christ in everything you do? It’s important you know your place in the kingdom. We are all here for Christ; once you know this and walk in line with this knowledge in every thing you do, Christ begins to increase in you while your natural self begins to decrease thereby bringing glory to God.

Prayer: Father, let your Son Jesus Christ always be my focal point in everything I do for the rest of my life.
