Topic: God has alternatives
Bible Reading: Psalm 90-92; Romans 11:1-21.
Memory Verse: “Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.” Romans 11:3 (KJV)
Nobody can hold God to ransome. No matter how diligent, resourceful and result oriented your ministry has been, God always have alternatives. This is why it is important you remain humble even while diverse miracles are being performed through you. Elijah did so much for the kingdom of God and at a time he thought he was the only one left as a man of God. He said to God Almighty in Romans 11:3 (KJV), “Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.” God answered him to show He had several alternatives. In fact He asked him to annoint his successor! In 1 Kings 19:15-16 (KJV), “And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria: [16] And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel–meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.”
There was a man who was used mightily of God that he raised several dead men back to life among several miracles God performed through him. But after a while, he became so proud of himself thinking as if God could not do without him. When there was Bible study, he would not go rather he would ask who was delivering the message and how many dead people had he raised? He felt he could not learn from those who were not as anointed as he was and over time he degenerated further. Apparently, the devil had opportunity to deal with him because he fell from grace. Remember Proverbs 16:5 (KJV), “Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.” This great man of God later became a mad man! How are the mighty falling!
Whatever God is doing through you, take note that there are several alternatives and you need to do your best with all sense of humility noting the word of God in 1 Peter 5:6 (KJV), “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:”
Action Point:
Humble yourself in whatever position you occupy in life.
