Bible Reading: Psalm 111:1- 10”
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth forever” – Psalm 111: 10(KJV)
The fear referred to in this scripture is not related to being frightened or being afraid, but fear in the sense of extreme love for God that generates a deep rooted reverence for him. Fear that emanates from an inestimable love for God. The wisdom referred to here is the wisdom of God, that is, the wisdom from above. It is not the earthly wisdom or commonsense, neither is it the sensual or intellectual wisdom. (James 3:15). The Psalmist claims that good understanding comes from doing God’s commandments. God’s commandment is part of God’s word, which the bible refers to in Psalm 119:130(KJV): “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding to the simple.”
The word of God is transformative and creative and when applied in life it releases the wisdom inherent in it to the recipient. It generates renewal of the mind and it enlightens the soul. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind………” Romans 12:2(KJV). When properly guided by the Spirit through the word, you can tap into divine direction. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my part” – Psalm 119:105(KJV). The word induces righteous living: “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me” – Psalm 119:133(KJV). Meditation on God’s word brings us to a place of great insight: “I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.” – Psalm 119:99(KJV). The benefits attached to studying and meditating on the word of God is of inestimable value. Through study and meditation of the word of God, we tap into divine wisdom that will give us good success and prosperity. “This book of the law shall not depart out thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” – Joshua 1:8(KJV). When we carry out a searching and investigative study in the word with a probing heart, we are bound to come out with a change of level that will turn us into a marvel among men.
The word has curative power: “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes (study); keep them in the midst of thine heart (meditation). For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh” – Proverbs 4:20-22(KJV).
My dear reader, God’s word is transformative, creative, curative and preservative. The word of God has the ability to prolong life. All things were created by His word, hence, that word has the power to recreate lost destiny and revive lost hope. God’s word has the power to raise the dead. You will agree with me that it is wisdom to diligently commit to the study and meditation of God’s word to maximize our destiny and achievement on earth.
Prayer: Father let your word never depart from my mouth and let it abide permanently in the midst of my heart.
