“And David said to Saul, let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine” – 1 Samuel 17: 32 (KJV)
Most times, we let ourselves be intimidated by the challenges that confront us. Our hearts fail us and so we become discouraged and fear takes the place of boldness. We tend to forget that the greater one lives in us. We often allow the trials and challenges that confront us to drain our energy and demoralize us causing us to turn our backs at the enemy in fear and despair.
We must learn to resist the devil and confront life’s challenges. Paul said to Timothy, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” – 1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV). We should learn to guard our heart with all diligence so it will not fail us, “for if thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small” – Proverbs 24:10 (KJV). We should learn to stand tall in the face of adversity and life’s challenges. We should learn to say like Caleb, “Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said” – Joshua 14:12 (KJV).
We should not allow fear to rob us of our boldness but we should be courageous like David (1 Sam 17:32). Not even the king’s promises could challenge king Saul’s army to come out of the cave and confront Goliath. They knew the king’s promises to whosoever defeat the Philistine:
That the king will enrich him with great riches
The king will give him his daughter as wife
His father’s house will be tax free in Israel.
None of these promises could stir them to accept the challenge of Goliath. David on the contrary saw Goliath as uncircumcised Philistine and his words as insult to God. He accepted the challenge to confront Goliath in the name of the Lord. Saul tried to discourage him informing him of Goliath’s strength and his own weaknesses and inexperience. But David could not be intimidated because he was counting not on his skills, expertise, experience or weapons, but on the grace of God.
You can rise in boldness and faith and confront the challenges that confront you.
PRAYER: Oh God, I activate my faith to confront my life’s challenges in Jesus name.
