“´…… for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble”. 1 Peter 5:5c KJV.
God honoured the word of Elijah because he honoured God. He was obedient to the word of God and he led a life of holiness. That is why he was able to decree and it was so.
Like we said on Saturday, a life of humility will find grace in the presence of God. So will it in the presence of men. Thus the captain of fifty soldiers that was sent the third time to arrest Elijah knew that he needed to humble himself not to go the way of the previous two. In virtually all situations, humility will find grace. Hence the bible showed in 2 Kings 1:13-15 KJV“And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight. Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight. And the angel of the Lord said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king”
The humility of the captain found grace in the presence of the man of God and this saved his life and those of the fifty soldiers. No wonder the bible says in 1 Peter 5:5c KJV. “for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble”.
Prayer: God Almighty, please grant me the grace to live a life of humility all through the rest of my days in Jesus name.
