Bible Reading: Psalm 50; Revelation 7:9-17
“Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined” – Psalm 50:2(KJV).
Zion is the city of David; it is the city of God chosen to showcase his glory and goodness. It is described as the perfection of beauty, a place from which God shined to the rest of the world. Here, God showcased his power, his deliverance and his glory. God chose to put his name there and showcase his power. “But in mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness, and the house of Jacob shall possess their possession” – Obadiah 17 (KJV). Just as Zion was chosen as the place of deliverance so also the church has been chosen as the place of God’s power and glory.
The church is not the building but a community of Christians. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” – 1 Peter 2:9(KJV). Just as God shined out of Zion, so He wants to shine today out of the church to the dark and ungodly world.
The church, the body of Christ, is called out of darkness to showcase the beauty and glory of God. As the community of believers live out the love of God and manifest the beauty and character of God, they become the shining light for the world to see how good God is.
To truly showcase the beauty of God, the church need to separate herself from the ungodly world so she can bear the fruit of godliness. The church should show love and give direction to the world in darkness. The church is called the light of the world and the salt of the earth; as she lives up to this calling, the beauty of God is revealed.
PRAYER: Lord, help the church to live as light.
