BIBLE READING: LEVITICUS 13; MATTHEW 26:26-51
“And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry Unclean, unclean” Leviticus 13:45 (KJV)
Sin, like leprosy, is associated with shame and reproach. God is always concerned about the infectious nature of sin. “Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump” 1 Corinthians 5:6 (KJV).
Leprosy is likened to sin. It separates people like sin does. It is contagious like sin having negative influence on others. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV).
The possibility of sin spreading through close association can be likened to the spread of leprosy or virus like Covid-19. Isolation from people with leprosy is recommended by God in the Old Testament and a separation from sinners in the New Testament.
God recommends a clear separation “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you” 2 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV). To be a good Christian, there is the need to separate from sinners. Avoid compromise and unequal yoking but while doing that, we should reach out to them with the gospel.
Prayer: Dear Lord, deliver me from the infectious potency of sin.
