Bible Reading: 2 Kings 15, 16; John 3:1-18
“Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered” – Proverbs 11:21 (KJV)
No one wakes up early in the morning, embarks on daily routine journeys, and determines to come back home empty handed. No athlete engages in a competition with the mind that there is no medal in view. No student who has done everything possible before examination day sets out to fail but rather to have a good grade. No farmer cultivates a land with the mind to reap nothing at harvest. Everyone sets out to receive a reward over whatever he has invested. In the same way, God has reward for everyone over whatever he has done and the Bible has the examples of those; both negative and positive regardless of the position one occupies.
A time came in Israel when kings were reigning and many of them were thinking they could live anyhow and they paid dearly for it. A mention was made of Zachariah, the son of Jeroboam who reigned in Samaria, did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and was rewarded with death. The Bible says, “In the thirty-eight year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah, son of Jeroboam, reigned over Israel in Samaria in six months. He did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, son of Nebat which he made Israel to sin. Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah and attached? and killed him before the people and reigned in his stead” – 2 Kings 15:8-10 (Amp).
God does not want anyone to die in his sin, this is the reason Jesus Christ came to redress our lives such that in any position we occupy we see ourselves as representing Christ. Nicodemus, unlike Zechariah even though we do not have account of any wickedness about him, accosted Jesus Christ in order to get the clear understanding of how to have eternal place with Him. The only stated condition given by Christ was to be born again. (John 3:1-3). This has never changed. It is still the same condition for eternal blissful reward.
Prayer: My God, help me not to waste the opportunity to do good as long as I live in Jesus name.
