Bible Reading: Ezra 3-5; John 20
“The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre” – John 20:1 (KJV).
If there is one thing that so many Christians look forward to today it is the appearing of Jesus in our life. From the record in the bible, Jesus appeared to those who truly had a heart for Him. He first appeared to a woman who went to His burial site just to keep watch over Him, even when He was dead and buried (John 20:1,14-16).
Mary Magdalene’s zeal for Jesus was clearly evident everywhere her name appeared in the bible. She was always close to Him listening to Him. Was at Golgotha with Jesus’ mother when he was on the cross (John 19:25) and probably till His death. No wonder Jesus appeared to her first.
Jesus is still appearing to people today. Remember, Hebrew 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day and for ever.” He appeared unto to His disciples after Mary Magdalene’s. But you must thirst and look forward to His appearing. Isaiah 44:3a says “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty.” Like King David who did and experienced God all over his life (Psalm 42:2).
His appearance will strengthen your faith like it did that of Mary Magdalene and His disciples, even till today. But only a heart for Him and a genuine thirst to see Him can make this possible. He still appears through the person of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, grace to have a heart for You like never before.
