Bible Reading: Psalm 84, 85 & 86; Romans 12
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” Romans 12:2 (KJV).
The mind is the most powerful part of a human being. It reflects the man as a whole. The bible says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” Proverbs 23:7a (KJV). Man’s thinking is influenced to a large extent by the environment where he finds himself.
The world we live in is ruled by Satan and his angels. He has fashioned a system on which the world revolves. There is intense pressure on all to conform to the pattern of the present world system and be squeezed into its mold. Everything in His kingdom is darkness. It is full of deception and wickedness.
Believers who have been located by God’s grace are encouraged by apostle Paul to be transformed through the renewal of their mind. The mind, therefore, is the key to the christian life. Transformation is mental and spiritual. Mentally we must start on the inside and then it reflects on the outside. From the immoral behaviour of the world, we get transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit as we take in the word of God, making it a lifestyle. We must replace the world’s way of thinking with God’s word, hold on to it until it translates into action naturally. That’s transformation, born out of conviction.
The choices we make are backed by the spirit world. We no longer conform to this world because we no longer belong to the spirit behind the happenings in the world. We have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear son (Colossians 1:13 ). So God’s Spirit backs our renewal choice.
But note that this renewal of the mind is a life long endeavour because Satan is constantly bombarding us with junks all in a bid to corrupt our thoughts and our mind. We live in the world but we are not part of it.
