Bible Reading: Psalm 93-95; Romans 11:22-36.
Memory Verse: “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” Romans 11:29 (KJV)
A musician in the south west of Nigeria once sang a song along the word of God in Matthew 25:14-28. The lyrics say you should not bury your talent because God will ask you what you did with it.
God has given everyone of His creation talents or gifts for His use. It’s your responsibility to find out your gifts/talents and then put them to use. Each person’s gift depends on his capacity. Some may have many while others may have a few but each of us is to deploy his own gift for the benefit of others thus impacting the world positively. The problem with most people is that rather than looking inwards, they look outwards admiring the gift of others and sometimes wishing that they have such gifts when in fact they have been given the gifts that befit their capacity and will make them shine.
Thus if the artist, doctor, shoe-maker, engineer, garbage emptier among others can seek for ways they can make the world better using their various talents, the world would be a far better place to live. So the key to each person’s joy and consequently the peace of others is to find what you are gifted to do and pursue them seeking the face of God on how best to utilize such a resource. The Bible talks about the wisdom and knowledge of God. It’s unsearchable because it covers all things, being the creator of everything and everyone! Romans 11:33 (KJV) says, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!”
He created all things and so knows everything but has given each one a bit of Him for that person to optimize and will be delighted if you only go to him and seek His face on your endowment with the objective of using it for the purpose intended. Romans 11:36 (KJV) puts it succinctly, “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”
Interestingly, God will not give you a gift today and take it tomorrow. No! once given, He leaves you with it to make the best of it and you will be held accountable for it. No wonder, apostle Paul wrote in Romans 11:29 (KJV), “ For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” God does not like wasters and will punish them ( Matthew 25:24-30). How then do you identify your talents or gifts? There are several ways but we will identify three of such here. First its stated in Matthew 7:7 (KJV), “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” Ask God to show you what your talents and gifts are. He will show you. However, in case you have not heard from God on this matter yet, then look out for what you like doing. In most cases, your interest aligns with your talents and gifts. In such cases, you observe that you show unusual ability in the area of your interest. People may observe and tell you. Sometimes you observe it yourself. The third way is by seeking counsel from your friends, associates and even counselors to know what they believe or observed as your area of gifting based on your exposure to them. When they tell you, you need to now be more observant and confirm it yourself.
Once you identify your talents and gifts, it’s important you plan how to develop it and use it for the benefit of mankind. The best way is still to seek God’s face on how best to use the gift. He will tell you either directly or indirectly; just be sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
