Bible Reading: Isaiah 39 & 40: Colossians 4
“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” Colossians 4:5-6 (KJV)
Our dealings as Christian on earth must be properly guided. In our daily activities we come in contact with people of different shades and value system. People are from different cultural backgrounds, with varying degree of attention attached to words that we utter. It is in this diversity of thoughts, opinions, believe and value system that we operate as Christian. Therefore bearing this in mind the pilgrim must properly guide himself or herself with God-given wisdom to be able to navigate through the complexity of human believe and value systems without friction. This was what Apostle Paul meant by walk in wisdom toward them that are without. The wisdom in question here is the wisdom from above, which is given by God.
Letting your speech be always with grace and seasoned with salt is a product of humbleness of heart and peaceable disposition. The Psalmist said in Psalm 25:9 (KJV), “The meek will he guide in judgment, and the meek will he teach his way” When we live a righteous life, walking in line with scriptural values the bible says “For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay or resist.” Irrespective of Moses’ anger that caused him not entering the promised land, the bible reckoned Him in Numbers 12:3 (KJV), “(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth).” To be meek means to be humble, self-effacing, submissive. For us to be effective in our Christian race and navigate the complex terrain of humanity we must learn humility and be totally submissive to the Holy Spirit leading. God’s wisdom that he gives to the humble at heart will enable him to know how to answer every man.
Our effectiveness in the Christian journey or pilgrimage is a function of our level of submissiveness to the leading of the Spirit. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” Romans 8:14(KJV). Jesus Christ was led by the Spirit throughout His earthly ministry, hence He can be attested to be the Son of God. Same will apply to us that He has redeemed. We must mortify the flesh and release our spirit to the control of the Spirit of God. It is only then that we begin to walk with the wisdom from above towards them that are without who will be unable to gainsay or resist the words from our mouth that are coated with grace and season with the salt of righteousness.
We can only be recipients of the true and heavenly wisdom when we accept the redemption that Christ offers us at Calvary. Consequently, I besiege you my dear reader to come to Christ and receive Him into your life and become a beneficiary of His redemptive work at Calvary.
Prayer: Father, guide me in all my ways by your Spirit and give me grace to perpetually be submissive to the leading of the Holy Ghost.
