Bible Reading: Psalm 112:1- 10
“Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments – Psalm 112:1(KJV).
As explained yesterday, the fear of the LORD referred to here is godly fear. It is fear that is rooted in an overwhelming love for God. That was the kind of awe and love Enoch had for God that was so strong that God took him and he did not see death. There are great benefits of having the fear of the LORD. This blessing goes beyond financial fortune. The Psalmist enumerated them in this Psalm 112. Lets examine some of these great blessings that comes with the fear of the LORD.
- ‘His seed shall be mighty upon earth and the generation of the upright shall be blessed.’ The fear of the LORD generates righteous living by which God preserves and protects. Upright life guarantees the success of your children and releases of divine blessing to you.
- Wealth and Riches shall be in his house. These is because his righteousness attracts divine favour. God’s favour will open the channels of abundance and prosperity.
- There ariseth light in darkness. An upright man is gracious and full of compassion consequently divine blessing will attract the countenance of God that will lighten his way. (Isaiah 60:1-3). Light to illuminate his environment comes from him due to his upright and compassionate heart.
- A good man sheweth favour and lendeth, The bible calls the man who fears the LORD a good man. God will give him wisdom to guide his affairs with discretion. Psalm 25:9
- Surely he shall not be moved forever. The righteous is as bold as a lion. He cannot be intimidated. See Psalm 125:1-2.
- The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. His legacy will linger from generation to generation. His name will remain long after his death. See Isaiah 60:15
He shall not be afraid of evil tiding his heart is fixed trusting the LORD. This is well stated in Job 5:20(K.JV) “In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword” Due to his complete trust in the LORD he shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue and he will not be afraid of destruction when it comes.(See Job 5:21). - He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor. He is a liberal soul given to hospitality. This is counted to him as righteousness (See the liberality of the Macedonian Church (2 Cor. 8;1-7). Due to his faithfulness in giving to the poor and sowing the seed in dispersal, God will exalt his horn.
My dear reader, the benefits that accrue to the man who has fear of God is of inestimable value. God’s word is true and constant because God cannot lie. So when we develop the virtue of the fear of the LORD, we are bound to be the recipient of the infinite varieties of blessings that comes from God.
Prayer: Father endue me with the Spirit of the fear of the LORD.
