TOPIC: HOW HONORABLE ARE YOU? (PART 2)
Bible Reading: 2 Kings 6-8; John 4:31-54
Memory verse: “Of the three he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three” 1 Chronicles 11:21 (KJV)
For many who eventually fulfilled destiny, although God was a constant factor in their lives, they had individuals who through God supported them to the end. This is the case with Naaman who almost missed out on the miracle waiting for him. Naaman was angry because of the instruction he got from Elisha to go wash himself seven times in river Jordan. He said Elisha should have come out to him, and do some demonstrations and suggested a cleaner river (2 Kings 4:11).
Thank God for the wise servant Naaman had and the fact that he listens to his servants. “And his servant came nearing spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? How much rather then, when he saith to thee, wash, and be clean” 2 Kings 4:13 (KJV). The bible continues, “Then he went down and dipped himself seven times in Jordan… and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean” 1 Kings 5:14 (KJV). Although he had desperate faith for a change his decision to listen to his slave girl and his servant helped facilitate his miracle.
David’s men were honourable because they rose from nobodies to high ranking military men. When running away from Saul, David escaped to the cave Adullam where his brethren and all his father’s house came to meet him. “And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men” 1 Samuel 22:2 (KJV). Having a captain who sleeps and wakes with prayers and praises to God really changed the mindsets of these societal rejects and before long their stories changed.
They became mighty men led by Joab. Then Joab’s brother Abishai also became honourable.1 Chronicles 11:21 (KJV). Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, slew two lionlike men of Moab. Verse 25 tells us, “Behold, he was honourable among the thirty…” like these men and others we have read about it does not matter where you were born but where your position is in God and those you have around you.
How honourable you want your life to be depends on how close a relationship you have with God.
Prayer: My Father, My God, help me to remain ever close to you especially in these times we are in today.
