DAILY BIBLE READING: Lamentations 1, 2; Hebrews 10: 1-19
“Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper: for the Lord hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.” Lamentation 1:5 (KJV).
When we consider the whole book of Lamentations, we must learn the lessons that are apparent there. We see a lot of mourning and as the name of the book signifies, we see a lot of lamentations. The people of Israel and Judah had sinned against the Lord. Their sin had brought down the judgment of God upon them. Sin always brings judgment.
The Bible says here that “her foes have become her master’s; her enemies are at ease. The Lord has brought her grief because of her many sins…” Lam. 1:6 (NIV). The disaster that befell the children of Israel was not the wickedness of God, it was a just recompense for their sins. It might appear today that the wicked go unpunished and sin prevails without justice, but it is never so. Sin always has repercussions. We must never get complacent with sin.
The children of God here serve for us an example. If the Lord did not spare his own children, we cannot expect to get away with sin. I don’t even consider this as punishment; rather I view it as cause and effect. Sin leads to death. When we give our members as instruments to sin, we open ourselves up to receiving the reward of sin. The foes of the children of Israel had become their masters because of their sin. If our foes will not become our masters, we must do away with sin.
God is merciful and he is willing to accept anyone that comes to him, so, I implore you to come back to God today and receive His forgiveness by confessing your sin and accepting his righteous ways.
Prayer: Dear Lord, forgive my sinful ways, save me from the repercussions of past sins and help me to walk in righteousness in Jesus Christ name.
