Bible Reading: Psalm 81:1-16
“Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways! I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries” – Psalm 81:13-14 (KJV).
No one wishes to remain perpetually in the prison of the enemy, but not everyone is ready to carry out the bidding of the One who knows the way in the wilderness of life. Everyone wants the song of victory to come out of his domain and to remain like that, but the sacrifice involved is very difficult for so many to bear.
God through Asaph was recounting the efforts He put in to bring His people out of the land of bondage – Egypt; how burdens were taken away from them and they gained deliverance from the hand of the task master. He reminded them how they cried to Him and they were heard. He also put a test before them at the water of Meribah (Exodus 17).
With all that God has done for these people, one possibly would have thought that if He calls them once, they should answer twice, but that was never the case. The same attitude that the children of Israel put up, in not hearkening to God’s instructions, is seen in the life of many who claim that they have been redeemed from the bondage of sin. They find it tough to hearken diligently to His ever loving voice. God is always ready for us if we are willing to listen to His voice.
When we listen to God and obey His instructions, we shall win the battles effortlessly and God shall still feed us with the finest of wheat. Never forget that this is only available to those who would completely sign out their lives for the Lord.
Prayer: Father, I receive from you today grace to hearken to your voice always in Jesus name.
