Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 25, 26; Luke 12:31-59.
“Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” – Luke 12:40 (KJVS).
Several things are happening these days that could distract people from getting ready for Christ. The pressure of the society on men is so much particularly when you do not have enough money to do basic things. A few years ago, a woman was caught selling one of her children for money. And people castigated her on why a woman that carried a pregnancy for nine months will willingly sell her own child for money. Well, she asked for audience before she would be judged. And when it was her turn to talk, she said she had many children and they were all crying because there was nothing for them to eat. When she could not bear it any longer, she decided to sell one of them thinking that whoever bought her would feed her and she would also get money to feed the remaining children! Can you imagine such level of poverty in a country where people stole several billions of dollars? But as sympathetic as the story looks, the mother is not ready for Christ, otherwise she would have looked for alternatives to get money legitimately to feed her children.
However, there are several other things that people are engaging in that shows they are not ready for the second coming of Christ. Luke 12:40 (KJVS) says, “Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” God has given us enough notice of the second coming of Christ. This is over two thousand years ago. You have no excuse not getting ready for him. And to be ready, you need to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, get to know more of him by studying the word of God, obey his word and fellowship with him regularly. This also means living your life everyday unto Christ as if it’s the last. Interestingly, God also promises that what you shall eat or drink and other needs of your life shall be provided. “But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Luke 12:31 (KJVS).
Prayer: Father remove from me, everything that will not allow me to make heaven in Jesus name.
