Bible Reading: Song of Solomon 6
“I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies” – Song of Solomon 6:3 (KJV).
Once a person receives Christ, he becomes a member of God’s family and by implication, he ceases to be his own but God’s. Becoming a Christian marks the end of living for self. “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own” – 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV). The person becomes God’s own and God becomes his father and his precious possession. By this relationship, the person is no longer free to live for self but for God. He puts God and his will first in everything… “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again” – 2 Corinthians 5:15 (KJV).
There are four basic needs of man in a spiritual sense namely:
- The need to believe: “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” – Romans 10:9-10 (KJV).
- The need to become – “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” – John 1:12 (KJV).
- The need to belong – “For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos, are ye not carnal?” – 1 Corinthians 3:4 (KJV). “And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s” – 1 Corinthians 3:23 (KJV).
- The need to behave – “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” – James 1:22 (KJV).
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to boldly say, I believe in God, I have become a son of God, I belong to God and I behave like God.
