Bible Reading: Proverb 19,20,21; 2 Corinthians 7
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it withersoever he will” – Proverb 21:1 (KJV).
One of the things man has mastered and controlled to his own advantage is water in the river. Man has learnt to channel water from the river to the house for drinking and for domestic purposes. Man has also channelled water from the river to the dry places to irrigate the land for agriculture purposes. The river has also become a means of transportation from one location to another and it is dammed for generation of electricity. Just like the water from the river can be channeled to any direction even against the normal direction of flow, God can channel the hearts of people to accomplish a purpose. It is in his power to soften or to harden a heart. God can channel a person’s heart to be favourably disposed towards us. He can equally harden a person’s heart or close ones’ heart to our request or advances for help. God hardened the heart of Pharaoh so he refused to favour Israel to go to the land of Canaan. God softened or mellowed the heart of the unjust judge through the persistent prayer of the importunate widow.
Every man’s lot is of the Lord, when we understand this, we stop running around men. When one pursues and pleases God, He will make even ones’ enemies to be at peace with him. We need to build our lives and destiny around God. He can turn even the hardest of men to bless or favour us.
When we walk by sight and pursue men of substance to help us, we may be disappointed and wound our hearts but if we learn to trust God, He can favour us even through the most unlikely channels. God used the widow to sustain the prophet, so he can save the widow in time of famine. He caused the raven to supply bread to Elijah; he can channel the heart of anyone to favour his people.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to find favour with you and with people in Jesus name.
