DAILY BIBLE READING: Lamentations 3, 4, 5; Hebrews 10: 20-39
“Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.” Lamentations 3:40-41 (KJV)
The call to examine ourselves is not one that is for the unbelieving alone, it is even more important for those of us in the faith. Constant examination of our ways is important if we would stay immovable on the narrow way. If we fail to examine ourselves, we give the devil room to divert our feet from the path of righteousness by the slightest angle. In today’s scripture, we are enjoined to search and try our ways and to turn to God.
True repentance is a product of an honest examination of our hearts in accordance to God’s righteous laws. As we daily give ourselves to the study of God’s words, we must constantly put our lives under the radar of the word so that we may be judged by God’s word. Author of the book of Lamentations encourages us to “…search and try our ways…” you and I must heed this counsel if we are to walk uprightly.
It is important to note that the only right standard by which to try our ways is the word of God. We cannot accurately examine our lives if we do not put it under the microscope of God’s eternal word. The world might examine our lives and find us perfect, but against the word of God, we might be lagging. The marking scheme of our lives is the word of God. The world will not judge us at the end, we must strive to live in accordance to God’s word.
The Psalmist, in one of the often quoted Psalms, says to God “…Search me and know my ways and see if there be any wicked way in me…” and when God reproves us of a wrong, we must instantly turn again to God in total repentance.
Prayer: O Lord, search me and know my ways and see if there be any wickedness in me and lead me to the everlasting path in Jesus Christ name.
